#135 – Safe and Sane Holidays: How to Create a Stress-Free Holiday Season for You and Your Habibi Bear Puppy

Safe and Sane Holidays Start with Preparation Magic

It’s been a wild ride here at Habibi Bears recently, but luckily, we have our furry little Habibi Bear puppy angels to keep our spirits high and smiles on our faces. Even when times get tough, we have our Habibi Bear guys and gals in their appropriate spaces, all marked out and designated to maintain a sense of order and routine even during the most chaotic of times. Keep reading to find out or review how designated dog spaces in your home can be of help to you and a treat to your pup as well during the hubbub and commotion of December.

Use a puppy space to keep your dog safe during the Holiday season

It is super beneficial to have a space purposely dedicated to your little Habibi Bear puppy in your home all year round, but especially during Christmas and New Years. It doesn’t matter if it is a doggie condo (a crate of any kind), a full ex-pen set-up, a baby-gated laundry room, or even one of those really plush gigantic dog beds from Costco that you can use with a tie-down.

A safe space for your dog during the holidays means they are

  1. Kept away from the potentially dangerous or toxic seasonal decorations.
  2. In a safe space when you are really distracted by gift wrapping, baking or extra socializing and aren’t able to supervise them as you normally would.
  3. Kept from being underfoot during moving big seasonal items or while bringing extra gifts or purchases inside from the car.

Knowing your Habibi Bear puppy is in his or her happy place is the peace of mind you need and deserve to be able to enjoy the day or celebration without distractions.

A true puppy paradise found right in the corner of your home

Your Habibi Bear puppy will benefit from a designated space of their very own in your home because

  • Your Habibi Bear puppy gets to chill out, relax and regroup during the day. Puppies can get overstimulated, especially during the out of the ordinary activities of the holidays, and having their own space is ideal for decompression so that they can return and rejoin the fun after taking a break or nap.
  • This is the space to give your Habibi Bear puppy all of those delicious high value distraction devices like puzzle toys, stuffed Kongs, licky mats, and their favorite chews. Providing these types of quality enrichment items for your puppy to chew only in this space creates a positive association and will condition them to experience comfort and send signals of satisfaction to their brains.
  • Having a special area for your dog where all their items are (place blanket, bed, stuffies) add to the sensation of comfort and coziness because of all the millions of scent receptors that all dogs are born with and make use of every single day. Remember, smelling is their super power and thirty three percent of your Habibi Bear puppy’s brain is dedicated to smelling. Having their own smells in their own space is “chef’s kiss” for your puppy and adds an extra deep layer of soul satisfaction for them. If you’ve ever noticed your pup rolling in their bed with a happy look on their face, you’ve caught a glimpse of the ecstasy they have experienced being surrounded by their own personal smell. It’s the cutest!

A benefit for you and your puppy!

Whether you have a new Habibi Bear puppy or an older established Habibi Bear dog, don’t forget to take advantage of a safe place for your dog to call their own during the holiday season and keep tensions low and satisfaction high for you both. That is a win-win in our book, which is always our goal here at Habibi Bears, to bring people and dogs together in a spirit of love and understanding. Have any questions? Know Your Boo 2: Avoid Voice Triggers

In the previous article (Know Your Boo, Jan 2024), we spoke about avoiding triggers with your Habibi Bear dog, leading them to possible overstimulation. Triggers are stimuli that can provoke anxiety or stress in your pup; things like doorbells, garbage trucks or sirens. However, I bet you didn’t know that even your best intentions can sometimes trigger nervous behavior in your Habibi Bear puppy! Let me explain.

What is a Habibi Bear?

The Habibi Bear is its own breed of dog, purposefully cultivated to be the best of a variety of different breeds, all selected for their unique traits and characteristics. The goal in developing the Habibi Bear was to take temperament of wonderful dogs like the cavalier, who are known for their sweet and gentle temperaments, but also known for their health concerns, and find a way, through hybridization, to great a dog who retained the cavalier temperament, but without the health concerns.
